Readers Write: ‘Revenant’ supports black actors’ concerns

The Island Now

I now better understand why the black actors in Hollywood are incensed that they have been left out in the cold in the upcoming Academy Awards

For instance, Will Smith’s acting in the movie “Concussion” is almost Shakespearian compared to the grunting of Leonardo DiCaprio’s throughout the movie “Revenant.”

So, what is the movie “Revenant” about?

In 1823, Hugh Glass, joined a team that traveled up the Missouri River and Grand River into which is now South Dakota. After he was mauled by a bear, he was left for dead.

He didn’t die and apparently traveled 1,500 miles to seek revenge on his mates for leaving him.

As one watches the conditions he survived in, you’d think he couldn’t travel 1,500 inches let alone 1,500 miles. If you go and see this impossible movie of survival, you will have to decide for yourself.

The highlights of this movie are multiple scenes of the British Columbia countryside which are terrific on the extra large screen upon which I saw the movie.

The movie is a great travelogue about B.C. in which Leonardo, a few French, Indians and others make cameo appearances.

Leonardo’s main adversary, Fitzgerald, is most difficult to understand.

Mumbling is sound that makes more sense than this dude.

After watching thousands of movie in my life, the movie “Elvira Madigan” was considered by me the worse movie ever made.

Elvira was a ropewalker that ran away with a Swedish officer who deserted his unit.

He couldn’t find work and they ended up [as I remember]] eating mushrooms on a hill.

“Revenant” is now number uno in my opinion as the worst movie ever made.

Elvira Madigan is now in second place.

Looking back on both of movies I wish the mushrooms were poisonous and Elvira had ended earlier.

I also wished the bear had killed Leonardo in the first 30 minutes.

I just might be a minority of one when one considers the following: [from the internet]

“Revenant is not just #1 in the U.S. box office, but #1 in the world.” “Austria and Switzerland; has been #1 for three weeks in a row.”

“Biggest opening for Leonardo DiCaprio in Russia, Mexico. Chile, Central America and Portugal.”

“If you haven’t seen it,put this on your list. inspired by a true event, powerful story of survival.”

One definition of Revenant is: One that returns after death or a long absence.

I would like to hear from others about their thoughts on this movie that cost me $ 31.20 for two seniors because it was shown on a special large screen.
