Reader’s Write: Thanks for supporting library project

The Island Now

Thank you for your support of the Nov. 19 referendum to renovate the Main Library!

After a number of failed attempts over the past 20 years, we believe success was achieved by creating a team of diverse community members who focused on the common goal of developing a conservative, cost-efficient plan to improve our Main Library Building without expanding the footprint.

The members of the board of trustees, the building advisory committee and library staff are grateful for your support.

Over the next 12 months, these groups along with our architect, Russ Davidson and his associates from KG&D Architects, and our owner’s representative, Dominic Calgi of Calgi Construction Management will continue to refine the design of the Main Building and manage the construction timeline.

Our relocation sub-committee is currently developing a cohesive temporary relocation plan for the Main Library’s staff, programs and materials during the anticipated 10-12 month closure to begin in fall 2014.

We invite you to be involved in the process by attending our meetings; dates and times are posted on the library website. The next scheduled Building Advisory Committee meeting is Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7  p.m. in the Community Room at the Main Library. All are welcome.

I look forward to celebrating together the grand re-opening of the Main Library building in the fall of 2015!

Marietta DiCamillo

President,

Great Neck Library Board of Trustees
