Readers Write: Trustees make right development choices

The Island Now

am happy that the two Mineola trustees will remain in office.

The published picture with the very tall buildings looked ridiculous and have nothing to do with what is happening.

The way it stands today, the Hudson House is not imposing. All I suggest is that the lights on the lower edge of the building be shaded somewhat as they are glaring to the distant observer.

The Mineola Modera has a classy ‘Fifth Avenue’ look. 250 Old Country Road is simpler yet good.

I believe that what is referred to as The Village Green should by all means have the go-ahead and make the most of it. In the long run Fox and the other stores on Main Street will benefit.

The present building though in good condition is from another era.

I don’t know its history but there is something dark and spooky about it. I sense it clearly but I don’t know what it means.

The proposed building with what might be like a courtyard in the center would do wonders for that area.

I went over to Searing Avenue and looked at the two spaces which were church property.

Due to the surrounding buildings, no frame single family houses are visible.

Like the nine others off of Willis Avenue, they will go unnoticed.

After these are completed, a breather would be in order to see how it works out.

As for the concerns of ‘Suburban Mineola’, it would be as if they all don’t exist.

There is room for at least three more apartment houses south of the tracks and west of Roslyn Road for future consideration.

Mineola downtown should make the most of what is done.

Once those spaces are used, that will be the end of it.

As far as traffic is concerned, the six buildings in Birchwood Court add up to more than twice as much as the Modera and 250 Old Country Road combined.

Two or three years ago on a nice warm weekday morning I watched the entrance to Birchwood Court during rush hour.

The number of vehicles entering and leaving were so few as to have no effect on traffic.

All I did was observe.

None of this ‘do a study thing’ using up money for nothing. So trite like “curb cut.” Some kind of quip?

I also notice that being a ‘politico’ for a length of time develops a blindness for the ability of being ‘honest able’.’

As for the other more than 20 older apartment houses in Mineola, traffic entering and leaving is not as much as noticeable.
