Nassau County police are investigating a Jan. 20 burglary in which a Williston Park resident’s home was “ransacked,” the victim said.

A neighbor’s surveillance footage showed two people going toward Maria O’Sattin’s house at 103 Collins Ave. around 6:45 p.m. that day, O’Sattin said.

They stole jewelry, family heirlooms, pieces of art, cash and some “miscellaneous items” before exiting through a sliding glass door around 7 p.m., she said.

Police said the burglars pried open a window in the rear of the house to get in.

With the lights out and a newspaper still on the front porch from that morning, O’Sattin said, it must have been obvious to the burglars no one was home.

“All these things, they just make me cringe, because it’s almost like saying, ‘Come and get us,’” she said.

O’Sattin said she’s always felt Williston Park is safe, but said residents should be aware burglaries can happen at any time.

She said she encouraged others should turn their lights on and pick up their newspapers to make their houses look like someone is always home.
