Women arrested under Leandra’s Law in Port Washington

A Maryland women was arrested in Port Washington on Sunday for driving while intoxicated with two children in the backseat of her car, Nassau County Police said.

Flavia Paulina Munoz Marchant, 38, of Point of Rocks, was arrested at 5:45 a.m. and charged under Leandra’s Law, a felony for driving drunk with children under 16 in the car.

An 8-year-old and a 15-year-old were in the backseat of Merchant’s 2012 Nissan, police said.

The children were released to their father, police said.

Merhcant was driving north on Port Washington Boulevard when police pulled her over for failing to stay in her lane, police said.

She was arraigned in the First District Court in Hempstead on two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and failing to stay in a single lane, police said.

Bail was sent at a $1,000 bond or $500 cash, according to court records.
