North Shore topples Mineola 10-1

The North Shore Vikings defeated the Mineola Mustangs 10-1 in lacrosse on Friday afternoon, led by Liam Knehr’s hat trick.

Ryan Aughavin recorded two goals and four assists while Andrew Kahn had a goal and an assist for North Shore.

John McMahon scored the lone goal for Mineola while goalkeeper Chris Shannon made 11 saves.

Mineola head coach Glenn Cocoman said the team improved defensively but had trouble generating offense against North Shore.

“Chris played great and I thought defensively we did a much better job than we did three days earlier,” Cocoman said. “Offensively we struggled and we’re gonna have a hard time all year because we just don’t have the offensive players. I don’t feel there was a lot they could have done differently to change the outcome.”

In the opening quarter, North Shore outscored Mineola 3-0 and outshot them 9-1.

Knehr paced North Shore’s attack with a hat trick in the first quarter.

Knehr notched the game’s first goal with 5:49 remaining in the first quarter to give North Shore a 1-0 lead.

47 seconds later, Knehr scored again to give North Shore a 2-0 lead.

Knehr completed the hat trick with 4:18 left in the first quarter to make it a three goal game.

In the second quarter, North Shore added three more goals and outshot Mineola 7-1.

Aughavin led North Shore with two goals in the second quarter.

Aughavin gave North Shore a 4-0 lead with 4:19 remaining in the second quarter.

Aughavin scored again with 3:07 left to play in the second quarter to give North Shore a 5-0 lead.

Kahn scored with six seconds left and North Shore took a 6-0 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, each team scored a goal but North Shore had the edge in shots 7-3.

McMahon got Mineola on the board with 9:18 left in the third quarter.

Stephen Grabner gave North Shore a 7-1 lead with 1:07 left to play in the the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Matt Robertson scored with 8:36 remaining to give North Shore a seven goal lead.

James Ledden scored a goal with 4:56 remaining in the final quarter as North Shore led 9-1.

With 1:28 left to play, Forrest Demetri netted a goal and North Shore went on to win 10-1.

Monday, Apr. 3

Roslyn defeated Great Neck South 14-2. Zach Simon and Hunter Rebetti each led Roslyn with two goals and an assist. Jacob Rusinek and Ethan Gatto each scored twice for Roslyn.

MacArthur defeated Great Neck North 16-2. Liam McCallister led MacArthur with a hat trick and four assists. Logan Robbins added a hat trick and an assist while Trevor Cannella recorded two goals and three assists for MacArthur.  Goalkeeper Matin Hakiman led Great Neck North with nine saves.

Tuesday, Apr. 4

Port Washington defeated Baldwin 13-8. Robbie Connors led Port Washington with a hat trick and an assist while goalkeeper AJ Galassi stopped 10 shots.

Locust Valley defeated Mineola 15-3. Cole Barnard led Locust Valley with four goals and an assist. Cooper Trepeta recorded a hat trick and three assists while Buck Andrea also scored a hat trick for Locust Valley. Goalkeeper Chris Shannon led Mineola with 12 saves.

Floral Park defeated Seaford 13-5. Mitchell Kozak led Floral Park with four goals and an assist.

Wheatley/Carle Place defeated Clarke 10-4. Luke Caliendo led Wheatley/Carle Place with two goals and two assists while Liam Coffey and Jake Lopez each scored twice. Joe Megiel and Luke Conway combined to force eight turnovers for Wheatley/Carle Place.

Holy Trinity defeated St. Mary’s 5-3. Tim Brengel led Holy Trinity with two goals and three assist while Sean Niland scored twice. Brengel and Niland scored in the fourth quarter to break a 3-3 tie. Holy Trinity goalkeeper Joe Botto recorded eight saves.

Wednesday, Apr. 5

Herricks defeated Roosevelt 8-4. Jason Zheng, Michael Scaldaferri and Marc Licul led Herricks with two goals each while goalkeeper Anthony Picano recorded 10 saves.

Jericho defeated Great Neck South 13-5. Chris Calisto led Jericho with six goals.

Manhasset defeated Calhoun 15-1. Kevin Mack led Manhasset with a hat trick and two assists.

Roslyn defeated Great Neck North 12-1. Zach Simon led Roslyn with a hat trick and an assist while Adam Combs scored twice. Jake Steffen recorded two goals and two assists while Jackson Klein had two goals and an assist for Roslyn. Goalkeeper Matin Hakiman led Great Neck North with nine saves.

Bellmore JFK defeated Sewanhaka 11-3. Jake Nelson led Bellmore JFK with five goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Matt Lafaro recorded 12 saves while James Turco won 14-of-17 faceoffs for Bellmore JFK.

South Side defeated New Hyde Park 14-4. Ryan Langdon led South Side with four goals and an assist while goalkeepers Colin Hamilton and J.T. McCarthy combine for eight saves.

Chaminade defeated St. Anthony’s 12-6. Regan Quinn led Chaminade with a hat trick while goalkeeper Andrew Bonofede recorded 11 saves.

Friday, Apr. 7

Wheatley/Carle Place defeated Glen Cove 8-5. Jake Lopez led Wheatley/Carle Place with a hat trick and an assist. Liam Coffey scored two goals while Lewis Gramma won 16 out of 17 faceoffs for Wheatley/Carle Place.

Manhasset defeated Mepham 11-2. John Psyllos and Kevin Mack each led Manhasset with a hat trick and an assist while goalkeeper Brendan Haggerty recorded seven saves.
