4 Decorating Trends in 2020

The Island Now

While the ever-changing trends in home decor mean that staying on top of your style game requires a little research, it is also what makes the redecorating process so exciting. If you want to start the new decade on the right fashion foot, here are some interior decorating trends bound to add an element of chic to your year.

Earth Tones

Neutral hues associated with wood, foliage and metals have been in for quite a while now, and 2020 has been no exception. Forest greens, subtle blues, and shades of gray and beige are both easy on the eye and promote a sense of well-being; something to be appreciated after a busy day at the office. Ultra versatile, neutral colors are great for both your walls and furniture, such as bedding and sofas.

You can also add an accent color to make your earthy home landscapes more interesting. Something as simple as a bright throw cushion or a rug can add an element of depth to a space decorated with predominantly neutral colors.

Multifunctional Spaces

With home learning and remote work on the rise, there has never been a better time to tweak your space to suit your lifestyle. Those with open-plan homes can easily convert kitchen islands or a corner of the living room into a workstation.

Even a walk-in closet or that extra space under the stairs can sometimes be turned into a fully functional and productive home office. While you are at it, don’t forget about creating a good work/life balance. To save money on a gym membership, why not convert unused areas in your garage or basement into a home gym.

Curvy Shapes

Inspired by the 60s and 70s, curves and arches are a great way to add some femininity to your home. Just like earthy hues, curvy shapes can introduce a calming element of softness to your living space. Plus, incorporating rounded edges to your home need not be difficult—think circular windows, arches, curved walls and rounded furniture.

Floral Wallpaper

Another feminine element in home decor that is making a comeback is floral wallpaper. While colorful and bright wallpapers are still popular in some Latin American countries, wallpaper has fallen out of favor in the US some time in the 80s, said Jo-Anna Gray from monederosmart.com

“Perhaps it has been the trend of feature walls that has recently brought the wallpaper back into the limelight. In addition, digital printing has enabled more people to get involved in wallpaper design.”

And it has been floral patterns, with modern and bold designs, that have gained in popularity the most when it comes to wallpaper. If you are not quite ready to commit, opt for adhesive wallpaper options that are easy to remove.
