7 Things Happening This Mother’s Day Weekend on Long Island

Long Island residents have a bevy of live entertainment options at their fingertips this Mother’s Day weekend, including comedy, music, dance and crafts for the kiddies hoping to create the perfect present for their moms. Here is a small sampling of what’s on tap on Long Island:

Paul Reiser @ Landmark on Main Street

Paul Reiser

Seasoned actor, writer and stand-up comedian Paul Reiser will perform his signature stand-up comedy at the Landmark on Main Street Friday at 8 p.m.

Reiser’s credits include the critically acclaimed NBC series, Mad About You, which garnered him Emmy, Golden Globe, American Comedy Award and Screen Actors Guild nominations, his books Couplehood and Babyhood, and numerous big screen roles in such feature films as Diner, Aliens and Beverly Hills Cop. “Zeus’ Garden” @ Universalist Unitarian Congregation at Shelter Rock

48 Shelter Rock Rd., Manhasset

Dance Visions NY, Long Island’s acclaimed Isadora Duncan based dance company, will perform excerpts from their award-winning program “Zeus’ Garden” outdoors on the lawn of the Universalist Unitarian Congregation at Shelter Rock, Sunday May 11 at 1:30 p.m..

There is no admission charge for this event. “Zeus’ Garden” features Isadora Duncan’s dances celebrating Myth and Nature. The program and company, under the direction of Beth Jucovy, will include “Tribute to the Greek Gods.” This work, to Schubert’s Symphony no. 9 in C major, is in three movements. The first is Tribute to Apollo, god of the sun, the second is Tribute to Dionysus, god of wine, and the third is Tribute to Artemis, the goddess of the hunt.

Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience @ The Paramount                

370 New York Ave., Huntington

Jason Bonham, son a legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, is keeping the family tradition alive, resurrecting the music of his father’s former band Friday, May 9, 8 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington. Performing some of Led Zeppelin’s most well-known and beloved songs, Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience is in the midst of a North American tour having toured last year in support of Heart. Bonham also backed Heart’s Anne & Nancy Wilson’s  performance of Stairway to Heaven during the Led Zeppelin tribute at the Kennedy Center Honors in December 2012.

The Moody Blues @ NYCB Theatre at Westbury

Classic Rock outfit The Moody Blues has been  musical mainstay on concert stages, recordings and the airwaves for the past 30 years and will conclude a three-night sting at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury Friday night at 8 p.m.  With a string of top 10 hits under their belt, including Go Now!, Tuesday Afternoon (Forever Afternoon), Nights in White Satin and Your Wildest Dreams. Their remarkable consistency has generated the sale of more than 55 million albums and created a standard for classic rock music which has brought them 18 platinum records.

Mother’s Day Sea Shell Necklace Craft @ Garvies Point Museum & Preserve

Family Pancake Breakfast @ Planting Fields

Bring the family to a fun and entertaining pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 10 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.  Enjoy an original recipe called Barbara Pancakes from Elsie’s book “Recipes for Successful Dining”.  These delicious pancakes topped with whip cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and walnuts were a favorite of Elsie’s. Come and celebrate Mom this May on Saturday, May 10 from 2 to 4 p.m.  Use tissue paper to create a blooming bouquet of colorful May flowers to give to your special mom for Mother’s Day. All ages.  Free with museum admission.
