Sweet Honey In The Rock, a performance ensemble rooted in African American culture and tradition, is performing a free concert, titled “Celebrating the Holydays,” at Hofstra University on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
This event is an end-of-semester Kwanzaa celebration, featuring a rare fusion of traditional American holiday spiritual songs and hymns, as well as songs from other cultures and religions, ranging from Africa to Israel.
Sweet Honey In The Rock features core members Louise Robinson, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, Carol Maillard and American Sign Language interpreter Barbara Hunt. The ensemble also includes bass player Romeir Mendez.
Sweet Honey In The Rock has a history that spans more than four decades. They are best known for music that creates a positive, loving, and socially conscious message. Their concerts educate, entertain, and empower audiences and communities through both a cappella singing and American Sign Language interpretation. Audiences come from diverse backgrounds and cultures throughout the United States and around the world.
“Celebrating the Holydays” will take place at Hofstra’s Toni and Martin Sosnoff Theater, John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. The concert is open to the public, but advance registration is required. RSVP at events.hofstra.edu. All guests must be vaccinated and prepared to show proof of vaccination and an ID. Masks must be worn at ALL indoor events on campus.

Guests are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items or basic items (toiletries-soap, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, etc.) towards the Mary Brennan INN.
