Students, faculty, staff and members of the Adelphi University community are joining together to raise money for cancer research and patients at this year’s Relay for Life.

The event will be from 3 p.m. Friday, April 6, through 3 a.m., Saturday, April 7, in Adelphi’s Center for Recreation and Sports.

“Relay for Life is one of the most powerful events I’ve ever experienced,” said student Kristina Goncalves, one of the event organizers. “At relay, I have the opportunity to come together with other people who have been affected by cancer and I am reminded that we are not alone and we have the power to fight back against this horrible disease. Through this event, faculty, staff, students, and the local community are able to come together under one common goal — to end the fight against cancer.”

Participants will celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those who lost their lives, and unite the community in the fight against cancer in the overnight community fundraising walk.

Activities include a Survivors Lap, reception and Luminaria Walk, teams of students camping out around the CSR, food, games and more. The annual event has raised as much as $75,000 in the past few years.

Members of the community are welcome to participate or join the fight against cancer by donating. Visit relayforlife.org/AdelphiNY for more information. Participants are not required to remain at relay the entire time.
