Alert Junior Firefighter honored with special award

The Island Now

At a recent meeting, the Great Neck Alert Junior Firefighters presented a special recognition award to Junior Firefighter Jordyn Durham for her attendance record and dedication to the organization displayed over the past year.

She was a member of the Juniors’ muster team and actively participated in Junior functions including meetings, drills and other special events.

Jordyn’s father, Jerry Durham, was most recently the Command Chaplain at the USMMA Kings Point until he was reassigned in August to serve at a naval base in Rhode Island.

Jordyn will be sorely missed by the friends she made in the Juniors program. She stated that she would like to start a Junior Firefighter program at the naval base for teenagers who are interested in learning about firefighting and rescue skills.

The Alert Junior Firefighters all agreed to provide her with guidance and support as she embarks on her new endeavor.
