Junior firefighters from the Great Neck Alert Fire Company were congratulated by Nassau County Legislator Ellen Birnbaum (D-Great Neck), following the program being named New York State’s top junior program by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York.

In addition to their dedication to community service, the organization is notable for its large female membership; the elected officials are all female and about half of the group’s members are women.

“Not only is the Great Neck Alert Fire Company’s dedication to developing a culture of volunteerism and community service highly admirable, I applaud the Company and its members for leading by example and sending a message to girls and young women that, through hard work and commitment, the opportunities available to them are endless,” Birnbaum said.
