One last time in Hollywood the Northwell Health Nurse Choir got to “Let It Go” and share the stage with Tony Award-winning actress Idina Menzel.
The performance took place on Wednesday night’s “America’s Got Talent” finale, where the winner of the $1 million grand prize was revealed.
The night marked the end of the Northwell choir’s run in the show’s 16th season and capped off a remarkable journey galvanizing the country with a message of perseverance and hope.
Ten acts including comedians, magicians, aerialists and singers vied for audience votes Tuesday night. During Wednesday’s finale, the Northwell choir placed outside of the top five finishers. Magician Dustin Tavella was named the winner after the two-hour show, beating out high-flying aerialist Aidan Bryant.
But the results didn’t stop the 18 health care workers from putting in a memorable showing on both nights.
Bookending the final performances Tuesday, the choir sang a rendition of “Stand by You” by Rachel Platten, donning matching red scrubs. It left both the audience and judges, including Heidi Klum, speechless and appreciative of the group’s day jobs.
“No matter who walks away with a million dollars tomorrow, you will walk away with a million ‘thank you’s’,” Klum said.
Wednesday night’s show had an early performance featuring the nurse choir, fellow finalist Jimmie Herrod and Menzel. The Syosset native, who voiced Elsa in Disney’s hit animated film “Frozen,” joined the two acts on stage to sing “Defying Gravity” from the Broadway musical “Wicked,” which Menzel starred in from 2003 to 2005.
Upon the news that voting placed the choir in the lower half of finalists, host Terry Crews reminded them and the crowd of the impact the group had made on the program.
“We are so grateful you came on this show,” Crews said. “You just made everything better, we will never forget you.”
In a statement released on the choir’s Instagram page, the group thanked everyone for their support throughout the journey.
“We are humbled and honored to have been able to represent nurses across the globe on this platform. This has been a GOLDEN EXPERIENCE,” the statement said. “This is not a goodbye, but see you later!”
