The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Saviour chose this day to officially welcome United Veteran’s Beacon House to the Ammerman House.

The Ammerman House was gifted to the Lutheran Church by Judy Ammerman for purpose of Community Ministry.

The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor this new partnership and church mission.

The socially distanced ceremony was opened by Church Council President Karin Campbell.

Ms. Campbell spoke of the great joy it is to be a beacon of light during this Covid-19 pandemic.

The Covering Pastor John Jurik offered prayer and a blessing for the house and all who enter there.

Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss welcomed UVBH to the Village of Mineola.

The Church of Our Saviour was honored to have Senator Anna Kaplan to bring greetings and her commitment of support.

Mineola Chamber of Commerce President Joel Harris gave words from the Chamber and provided the ribbon and ceremonial scissors.

Frank Amalfitano, president and CEO of UVBH spoke emotionally of what this home will mean to the veterans they serve. As a veteran Frank began as a volunteer after learning that there were many homeless veterans.

United Veteran’s Beacon House was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Bay Shore.

UVBH honors those who have served to protect our nation. While most Americans pay homage on Veterans Day each year, the challenges faced by many veterans exist each and every day.

As many veterans and their families strive to develop and maintain productive lives, Beacon House provides essential services to assist in “the journey toward fruitful independence to the veterans of our country.”

The Ammerman House will serve as temporary housing for veterans transitioning to permanent housing.

If you would like additional information or would like to make donations please contact LCOS at (516) 746-3824. The Church is located at 132 Jefferson Avenue, Mineola, NY 11501.
