Applications open for lung cancer charity walk/run

The 10th Annual Tom Zangas Memorial Lung Caner Foundation/Archangel Michael Church Race will be held on on Saturday, Oct. 28, but applications for the race are available starting Oct. 2.

The race is named for triathlete and marathoner Tom Zangas, who died from lung cancer at age 40 in 2011. The proceeds from the race will go to the Foundation of Fund Lung Cancer Research and the Archangel Michael Church of Port Washington.

Founded by Tom’s parents, the Tom Zangas Memorial Lung Cancer Foundation has raised more the $300,000 to date for cancer research. The race will be held at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington and the race will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The entry fee for the race is $35 and free for participants ages 12 and under. Runners will receive a t-shirt and a photo of them finishing the race.
