The news can leave everyone a bit down these days and the Art League of Long Island wants to lift people’s spirits.

Studies show that a sense of humor increases longevity by easing stress, promoting social bonding, and lowering blood pressure. And a photographer’s camera lens captures images that can promote a smile, a giggle or a good belly laugh to recharge human batteries.

The Art League is currently inviting photographers residing in New York, Connecticut or New Jersey, 18 years or older, to submit work for their 7th annual photography exhibition, Laughing Out Loud! The deadline for submissions is Thursday, May 30.

With Alex Ferrone of the Alex Ferrone Gallery in Cutchogue serving as juror, the exhibit will be on display from June 29 to Aug. 4, with an opening reception on Sunday, June 30, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Images created via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration, including those shot on film, shot digitally, unaltered shots, alternative process, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, and photograms, as long as part of the image is photographically created and the photo was taken by the artist.
