Young Adult author Chris Crutcher visited North Middle School on March 6 to speak about the writing process and answer questions from students.
All students at North Middle recently finished reading one of Mr. Crutcher’s works: eighth graders read the novel Deadline, seventh graders read Ironman, and sixth graders read a short story. During grade-level assemblies, students enthusiastically asked the author questions about the characters and plot development of these three works. Mr. Crutcher also interacted with students during a special luncheon and signed copies of his books.
Since 1983, Chris Crutcher has published thirteen novels, an autobiography, and two short stories. He is the recipient of several awards, including the American Library Association’s Margaret A. Edwards Lifetime Achievement Award and two Intellectual Freedom awards, one from the National Council for Teachers of English and the other from the National Coalition Against Censorship. From 1999-2000, five of his books appeared on an American Library Association list of the “100 Best Books for Teens of the Twentieth Century.”
