Williston Park voters may have some deja vu on Tuesday.
When they go to the polls, they’ll find village Trustee Billy Carr unopposed on the ballot again after electing him to a second four-year term last March.
Due to an oversight, Carr did not sign the village oath book after he won his seat in his last unopposed bid, causing him to lose the position after 30 days, village Clerk Julie Kain said last month. Mayor Paul Ehrbar subsequently appointed him as an interim trustee until this year’s election.
That’s the first time such a slip-up has happened in the village, Kain said in an email Monday. It will cost the village about $1,500 to hold the election it would not have otherwise had, she said.
“It’s a baffling law, but it’s still a law and we got to abide by it and you learn something from it,” Carr said in an interview last month.
Carr, an electrician, has lived in Williston Park with his wife and children since 2001. He was first elected in 2012 alongside fellow Trustee Michael Uttaro, who also won an unopposed bid for a second term last year.
He serves as the Board of Trustees liaison to the Williston Park Library, the village auxiliary police and the village court.
In the interview last month, Carr touted his and the board’s successful negotiation of a 25-year water-service agreement with the neighboring Village of East Williston, ending a five-year dispute that sometimes got heated.
Carr has also helped oversee several renovation projects at Kelleher Field, one of the village’s parks, including upgrades to the stage and an extension of the basketball court, he said.
“There’s a lot of kids in the neighborhood and that’s been utilized even in the winter months,” Carr said of the basketball court.
Carr has also been involved in the village Recreation Committee, which sponsors programs for seniors, children and residents in general. He called the committee “a great group of people that do a lot of great things for our village.”
Williston Park residents can cast ballots on Tuesday, March 21, from noon to 9 p.m. at Village Hall, located at 494 Willis Ave.
