Willis Avenue’s CVS shopping center is soon to become a health-enthusiast haven.
Barry’s Bootcamp, a fitness studio specializing in high intensity and strength-building workouts, and Chopt, a salad eatery, will be the new tenants in the shopping center under renovation in Roslyn Heights.
The location’s final longtime family business, Olive Market, closed less than two months ago. Now, the storefront has been gutted with the ongoing renovations.
The shopping center makeover comes after Adam Mann and Louis Silverman purchased it in 2018 with a vision of a modern, Hampton-style space.
The building needed major repairs as maintenance had been neglected under the previous owners, Silverman said. CVS and Starbucks opted to stay and will remain open throughout construction. The three family businesses to their right – Sotto Luna, Joven Cleaners and Olive Market – left as the new owners planned rent hikes and major repairs.
The businesses never held leases with the previous owners, Silverman said, and those owners were renting the space at what he considered a highly discounted price.
Olive Market was the last to leave, but closed May 31 after co-owner Jack Chin said he was unable to renegotiate the lease in a way that would work for the grocery store.
Barry’s Bootcamp has locations in 11 states, Washington, D.C., and overseas. The three existing Long Island locations are in the Hamptons.
The 50-to-60-minute workouts can burn 1,000 calories, according to the company’s website. Instructors lead the classes in rooms doused in red light with customized playlists as accompaniment.
The Roslyn location will include a “fuel bar” with shakes and snacks. Class prices for Roslyn are not yet listed, but a single class in the Hamptons costs $40 while a pack of 30 is $1,080. The company recommends that participants take three to four classes a week.
The nearest Chopt locations are in New Hyde Park and Woodbury. Customers may build their own salad, and the company newly offers warm grain-based bowls.
Both businesses went before the Town of North Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals July 10 for variances to allow for interior alterations and other provisions.
Efforts to reach Barry’s Bootcamp and Chopt were unavailing.
