Bestselling author to visit local JCC

The Island Now

Fiona Davis, the nationally bestselling author of “The Dollhouse” and “The Address,” will make an appearance on Long Island to discuss and sign copies of her New York-based novels. The event will take place at the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m.

In her debut novel, “The Dollhouse,” Davis tells a story about New York City’s Barbizon Hotel for Women that housed aspiring models, secretaries, and editors during the 1950s, a place that intrigues a modern-day journalist who sets out to uncover a dark secret buried deep within Barbizon’s glamorous past.

“The Dollhouse” received much praise from critics, including People magazine, which said the novel is “rich in both twists and period detail” and “impossible to put down.” The New York Post called the book “an ode to old New York that will have you yelling for more seasons of ‘Mad Men.'”

In her follow-up novel, “The Address,” published last year, Davis tells a story of two women living 100 years apart, but whose destinies are tied to another famous Manhattan residence, The Dakota. This title went on to become an Indie National Bestseller, an August LibraryReads pick, and an August Indie Next Pick.

This summer will see the release of Davis’ new novel, “The Masterpiece” (Aug. 7), in which she takes readers inside New York City’s crown jewel, Grand Central Terminal.  This story involves a perhaps little-known piece of history involving this constellation-adorned landmark, the Grand Central School of Art, in dual narratives set in the disparate worlds of 1928 and 1974 Manhattan.

“The Masterpiece” has already received advance praise from fellow bestselling novelists Caroline Leavitt and Pam Jenoff, among others.

A former actress, who worked on and off-Broadway, Davis received a master’s degree at Columbia Journalism School, where she fell in love with writing, going from editor to freelance journalist before finally settling down as an author of historical fiction. She’s a graduate of the College of William & Mary and is based in New York City.

Sid Jacobson JCC is located at 300 Forest Drive in Greenvale. Tickets to the event are $35 for JCC members, $45 for non-members.  For more information about the event, go to www.sjjcc.org, and to learn more about the author visit www.fionadavis.net.
