State Sen. Elaine Phillips recently attended the 39th annual Polish Gift of Life Luncheon in New Hyde Park.
“The Polish Gift of Life continues to provide children with congenital heart defects medical and financial assistance so they can receive the treatment and surgeries they require,” Phillips said. “It was a pleasure to attend this year’s annual luncheon, and congratulations to Bishop Andrzej Zglejszewski on being named this year’s honoree.”
The Polish Gift of Life was established in 1978 in Albertson and helps the deficiencies of the healthcare system in Poland by bringing medical and financial assistance to Polish children with congenital heart defects.
The annual luncheon helps to raise funding to provide open-heart surgeries and other life-saving cardiac procedures for Polish children who are critically ill.
Zglejszewski was born and raised in Poland and moved to the United States in 1987 where he studied for priesthood at the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington.

In 2007, Zglejszewski was appointed director of the Diocesan Office of Worship and co-chancellor in 2013.
