Adelphi University’s Work-Life Wellness Certificate Program has received the Civic Learning Program Excellence Award. The program, run by Adelphi’s Health Services Center, was awarded at the annual Long Island Council of Student Personnel Administrators conference on Friday, Nov. 16, at SUNY Old Westbury.

Each year, the LICSPA Excellence Awards recognizes outstanding professional contributions and quality service of personnel at member institutions in the field of higher education. Adelphi’s Work-Life Wellness Certificate Program was chosen for its demonstration of creativity, student involvement, innovation and effort to benefit the Health Services program and the university as a whole.

Created in early 2018, the Work-Life Wellness Certificate Program focuses on identifying and developing the necessary skills that will help ease the transition from college to the workforce. The program addresses multiple topics over the course of six workshops and culminates with participating students earning a Work Life-Wellness Certificate. Topics of discussion include interpersonal relationships, life at Adelphi, nutrition, overall well-being, physical activity and stress management.

“The program allows students to choose multidimensional learning platforms and courses in areas such as bystander training, resiliency, nutrition and exercise, sexual health and positive psychology and more” said Jacqueline Johnston, director of Health Services. “This award is a testament to the work of our health educators and peer educators, who continuously strive to provide students with topics that will not only help them as students but hopefully help them to become purposeful and engaged as employees and future alumni.”

The Work-Life Wellness Certificate Program is supported by the Adelphi’s Women’s Giving Circle. Through its collective financial giving, donation of time and talent, the Circle raises the visibility of women doing philanthropic work at Adelphi by promoting and supporting social and educational change.
