Adelphi Performing Arts Center announces Fall 2019 season

The 12th season of the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center in Garden City, New York, kicks off its fall season this month with 25 cultural events taking place through December. A favorite among the community, Adelphi PAC offers performances in theatre and a variety of styles of dance and music.

Taking the stage this season are such exciting artists as illusionist Mike Super, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, and Adelphi’s own talented students.

Mike Super is the winner of NBC’s hit TV show Phenomenon and performed for more than six weeks on America’s Got Talent as a top finalist and in the season premier episode of Penn & Teller’s “Fool Us.” His show on Saturday, Nov. 9, features his unique style that has brought the art of magic back.

Sunday, Sept. 22
Larson Legacy Concert: Andy Roninson

The Larson Legacy Concert Series at the Adelphi PAC celebrates the next generation of artists at the college home of the creator of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Rent,” Jonathan Larson ’82.

This year Adelphi PAC honors Andy Roninson, a composer-lyricist, orchestrator and music director in New York City. With a talented cast of vocalists, he will perform songs from his internationally acclaimed podcast TAKE A TEN, as well as never-before-heard material from new musicals in the works.

Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company
The Paul Taylor 2 Dance company returns to Adelphi PAC to showcase three classic works by Paul Taylor restaged for this talented company of six dancers, with completely different programs for both the September and October shows.

Tuesday, October 1, through Sunday, Oct. 6
Pale Blue Dot(s)

The Adelphi University Department of Theatre commissioned playwright (and Adelphi alumna) Erin Mallon to write this new play for Adelphi’s theater students. The entertaining show takes place several years in the future, where an all-female astronaut team circumnavigates the globe once every 90 minutes aboard the International Space Station. When a surprise set of “every day citizens” tags along for the ride, all protocol flies right out the proverbial airlock.

Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13
Adelphi’s Best of Broadway

Adelphi University’s own talented students perform the songs of Broadway. Enjoy both old and new, well-known classics, and hidden gems.

Friday, Oct. 25

Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play

Three outstanding musicians with deep musical roots come together to form Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play. Listen to the talents of Peter Madcat Ruth (on harmonica, guitar, jaw harp, percussion and vocals), Joel Brown, (folk and classical acoustic guitar and vocals) and Chris Brubeck (electric bass, bass trombone, piano and vocals) during this joyous concert. The trio perform folk, blues, classical and jazz — including the work of Dave Brubeck, Chris’s father.

Tuesday, Oct. 29, through Sunday, November 3
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
The classic farce by famed writer Oscar Wilde comes to the Adelphi PAC stage. Pointed wit and sharp social satire combine in a comedy of confused identities, crisscrossing lovers, desperate christenings, lost babies in handbags and some of the British theatre’s most memorable language and characters.

Saturday, Nov. 9
Mike Super – Magic & Illusion

Through spectacular illusions and his own inimitable down-to-earth style and personality, Mike Super has pioneered a new form of magic that transcends the “trick”. His many television appearances include being named the winner of NBC’s television show Phenomenon and an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Join the journey of emotions from laughter, intrigue, danger, fear, wonder, anticipation, tears and sentimentality in this family-friendly performance.

Sunday, Nov. 17
Greater Nassau Chorus
The award-winning Greater Nassau Chorus presents a matinee filled with contemporary music, show tunes and popular favorites under the direction of Master Director 700 Harriette Walters. The women’s barbershop chorus has been entertaining audiences to four-part a capella music since 1960.

Friday, Dec. 13

Paul Taylor Dance Company

The Paul Taylor Dance Company returns to Adelphi PAC again this fall season with a program of modern dance celebrating their late founder, Paul Taylor. This legacy performance is scheduled to include Brief Encounters, Last Look, and audience favorite Esplanade.

More Choices this Fall/Early Winter

The season runs until mid-December with select additional events including performances by Adelphi’s Symphony Orchestra, Adelphi Jazz Ensemble, Adelphi Chorale and Adelphi Vocal Ensemble in November; and a concert hall screening of Bizet’s Carmen and Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in December.
