Adelphi safety investigator awarded

The Island Now

When it comes to safety, investigative CCTV specialist Eugene Doherty is an expert that Adelphi has been able to count on for over a decade. Doherty began working at Adelphi in 2006, keeping track of campus surveillance. Noticing his hard work, the ASIS International Chapter of Long Island has awarded Doherty with Arthur Colwin Security Officer of Year.

As CCTV specialist, Doherty is responsible for looking over camera footage and helping with investigations. In 2018, he reviewed more than 550 hours of video footage and helped with more than 300 cases.

“Eugene has a deep dedication and commitment to our university,” said Public Safety Executive Director Robert F. Hughes, who nominated Doherty for the award. “He continually strives through his investigative duties to make Adelphi a safe and secure location.”

On May 14, Doherty officially received his award at the ASIS Person of the Year dinner. He will receive a complimentary one-year associate membership with ASIS International, and be assigned to the Long Island Chapter. Founded in 1955 as the American Society for Industrial Security, the organization officially changed its name in 2002 to ASIS International to reflect the international expansion of ASIS, which now includes members in more than 125 countries.

ASIS International Chapter of Long Island is a forum of approximately 300 members that brings together security professionals to further their common goals and to share experiences and best practices.

“I am proud and honored to win the Arthur B. Colwin Jr. Memorial Security Officer of the Year Award,” said Doherty. “I enjoy my job and enjoy working on this campus.”
