Adelphi University’s Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Christopher Lyndon Gee, brings to the stage Haydn’s trio of linked Symphonies Nos. 6-8, subtitled “Morning,” “Noon,” and “Evening,” on Friday, Oct. 26.
These works, written during first days of his employment by the Esterhazy court in 1761, provide for a stunningly virtuosic experience for both the audience and the performers, as Haydn has composed music in the Baroque style that features virtually all of the sections of the orchestra.
The program is rounded out by a remarkable contrasting work, Strawinksy’s Dumbarton Oaks. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos inspired the 1938 composition, commissioned in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Robert and Mildred Bill.
The performance will begin at 8 p.m. on the Westermann Stage in the Concert Hall at Adelphi’s Performing Arts Center. Tickets are on sale for $25. Discounts available to seniors, students and alumni.
