“People should expect to walk away with some knowledge regarding trauma and attachment, specifically as it relates to children, and the impact trauma can have,” said Yumnah Syed-Swift, coordinator of evaluation and training for the Institute for Adolescent Trauma, Treatment and Training in Adelphi’s School of Social Work.

A guest speaker will be world-renowned trauma specialist John Briere, professor of psychiatry and the behavioral sciences at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, and the director of the USC Adolescent Trauma Training Center of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.

Triggered, named after Briere’s new book, is a workshop that will teach participants to better understand and assist those who have dealt with trauma.

“The workshop is important because we are providing mental health professionals with a sort of rare opportunity to hear one of the first talks ever given by John Briere,” said Syed-Swift.

Triggered will take place in Adelphi’s Performing Art Center and runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The workshop costs $30. More information and registration is available online.

The event is a continuing education offering by Adelphi’s School of Social Work.
