American Cancer Society to hold pediatric cancer benefits

The Island Now

The American Cancer Society is inviting the public to recognize Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September by participating in “Glimmer of Gold” lantern launches to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research and programs.

Beginning at dusk, the family event will feature food trucks, entertainment, and a celebration of life as participants light and launch lanterns into the water. This inspirational moment will honor, support and illustrate the community’s commitment to children faced with cancer.

Glimmer of Gold events are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. at Crab Meadow Beach Park in Huntington and Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Manorhaven Beach in Port Washington.

Requested donations to the American Cancer Society are $20 per adult and $10 for children under 12, or a $50 donation for a family four pack. Each tax-deductible donation includes a lantern which can be decorated and used to set sail at dusk.

Tickets for the Huntington event can be purchased online at www.Tinyurl.com/glimmerofgoldsuffolk. Tickets for the Port Washington event can be purchased at www.Tinyurl.com/glimmerofgoldnassau.
