Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso recently met with members of the Queens/Nassau chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. They discussed some of the issues that affect people who have a mental illness, such as affordable housing, jobs, transportation and getting the right type of care.

NAMI started as a small group gathered at a kitchen table in 1979 and has grown to become the nation’s leading voice on mental health. They have hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and volunteers who work in local communities to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.

If someone needs to speak about a mental health issue, call the NAMI Helpline
1-800-950-6264 or in a crisis you can text NAMI to 741741.
