Award-winning author to speak in Manhasset

Award-Winning Author, Tessa Afshar, to Speak at Congregtional Church May 18

Everyone is invited to the Congregational Church of Manhasset’s Spring Retreat on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., featuring the program “Love and Destiny: Overcoming Life’s Challanges, with award-winning author, Tessa Afshar.

Afshar, who has captivated audiences with her knowledge and humor, will speak on two timely topics: “Overcomers” and “Love & Destiny.” Not only is she leading the May 18 Spring Retreat, but she will also be the featured speaker at a 10 a.m. worship the next day, May 19, which will be followed by an 11:30 a.m. Q&A.

Afshar’s novel, “Thief of Corinth” (August 2018), received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Library Journal. Her novel, “Land of Silence,” was voted by Library Journal as one of five top Christian Fiction titles of 2016.

Afshar was born in Iran, living there for the first 14 years of her life. She moved to England to attend a boarding school for girls where she fell in love with authors Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, before moving to the United States permanently. She began following the Christian faith in her 20s. Afshar holds an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School. Her visit is in partnership with Seeds of Faith, founded by Lisa Larsen Hill.
