North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Council Member Dina De Giorgio attended the Line of Duty wall dedication ceremony for Honorary Chief Doris Groene at the Vigilant Fire Company in Great Neck on Dec. 16.

Groene passed away in June 2017 after a long battle with 9/11-related cancer. She worked at the Vigilant Fire Company for over 30 years answering calls and as one of the fire company’s first fire medics. She also responded to the 9/11 terror attacks where she went with mutual aid units to the World Trade Center and Chelsea Piers. She was a vital member of the Great Neck community and was active on the Vigilant Fire Department board among other organizations.

Other elected officials in attendance at the wall dedication included U.S. Congressman Tom Suozzi, Nassau County Legislator Ellen Birnbaum and New York state Assemblyman Tony D’Urso.
