Movie at Great Neck House

The film, “Blaze” (2018), starring Ben Dickey, Alial Shawkat and Charlie Sexton will be showing at Great Neck House on Friday, June 21 at 8 p.m., Saturday, June 22 at 5 and 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. This is the story of Blaze Foley, who is the songwriting legend of the Texas outlaw music movement that spawned the likes of Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. The bittersweet storyline acknowledges Blaze’s profound highs and lows, as well as the impressions he made on the people who shared his journey. The film is rated R and runs 2h 9min. A park pass is required for admission.

Summer Tennis Camp

Parkwood Tennis Camp runs from July 1 through Aug. 23. We offer an optional early drop-off. Opened to players ages 6-17 of all abilities. Participants are evaluated to address individual needs. Mornings consist of drill, point play and physical conditioning. The second half of the day consists of match play and competitive games. Register weekly or for the whole summer. Nature Program: Inspirational Walk

On Sunday, June 23 at 10 a.m., take an inspirational walk with us. This is actually more like a leisurely ramble, generously interspersed with readings to enhance your appreciation of beauty, wonder and tranquility of nature. Camp Parkwood 2019 Registration Camp

Parkwood offers age appropriate activities (ages 3 and up), optional door-to-door bus service (ages 4+), complimentary towel service and Tweens Travel Program (grades six through eight), plus new this summer, Leaders In Training for ages 14 and 15 and Camp Parkwood Sports Camp option for grades 2-5. Due to popular demand, they have opened this option up to second graders. This brand new sports program is coached by skilled professionals from an outside sports organization. A different sport runs each week between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Choose one or more weeks to participate (add additional $75 per week to camp program). Activities resume with regular camp group after lunch. Camp runs from July 1 through Aug. 23 (closed 7/4). Register weekly or for the whole summer. Sail this Summer at Steppingstone Marina

In addition to adult sailing programs and family courses, new waterfront activities, kayak/sailboat rentals, mooring rentals and boat ramp, the Park District has a Summertime Sailing program (ages 7-17), which runs from July 1 to Aug. 30. For those who love to sail or would like to learn, this full or half-day program will have you “on board” in no time. Register weekly or for the whole summer. There are additional activities at Parkwood Sports Complex and optional transportation, daily lunches and field trips. They also offer Sail School (beginners through expert level, ages 7-17) for a more competitive, intensive experience on the water, which runs from June 25 through Aug. 24. Defensive Driving Classes at Great Neck House

Great Neck House continues to offer Empire Safety Council Defensive Driving classes. The classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month. The next class offered is on July 6. To sign up for a class or for more information, call Great Neck House at 516-482-0355.
