Floral Park Historical Society to present North Fork milestone markers

The Island Now

The Floral Park Historical Society will welcome speaker Bruce Kagan at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, at the Floral Park Recreation Center. He will summarize his research in a talk titled “North Fork Milestone Markers.”

Interestingly, the granite markers, largely unnoticed by the public today, were once important to the postal system in the 18th Century when Benjamin Franklin was postmaster for the British colonies.
The program is open to the public and is free. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the FPHS or a volunteer, please call (516)775-6849. Also, please call if interested in scheduling a tour of the local FPHS Museum.
