Troop 10 recently completed a successful camping trip on the New Jersey Palisades at Camp Alpine. Twenty-seven Scouts and eight adult leaders camped in tents on a beautiful early fall weekend.

The scouts were organized into four patrols and each patrol individually and independently planned their menus during the week and shopped for food. At the camp, they cooked their own dinner and breakfast.

The activities included a four-mile hike down to the Hudson River and then north to a boulder field where they scrambled among the rocks. Back at the campsite, younger scouts received instructions from the older scouts regarding proper safety and use of knife, ax and saw.

In addition, they learned fire-building skills. After dinner and clean up, a large campfire was enjoyed by everybody. Sunday morning after breakfast, younger scouts were tested regarding what they learned the previous day.

They cleaned up camp in accordance to the Scout Motto of “Leave No Trace” and departed for home. Troop 10 meets at the North Shore Presbyterian Church, 275 Lakeville Road, Mondays at 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on school days.
