Weekend Movie at Great Neck House

The Zookeeper’s Wife, directed by Niki Caro, will be shown on Friday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5 and 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Great Neck House.

Starring Jessica Chastain, Johan Heldenbergh and Daniel Brühl, this film is the story of Antonina and Jan Zabinski, the keepers of the Warsaw Zoo, who helped save hundreds of people and animals during the German invasion. It is rated PG-13 and runs two hours and seven minutes long. Admission requires a park card.

Sunday @ 2: Emily and Vincent Ricciardi

Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m., married singing duo Emily and Vincent Ricciardi, will perform a variety of different musical genres at Great Neck House.

Vincent, a tenor, is known for his powerful vocals and vocal versatility. His music is often compared to the music of Josh Groban, Russell Watson, and Michael Buble. His song “Sometimes you Gotta Get Away” is featured in the upcoming film At the Sinatra Club.

Emily has performed throughout the tri-state area, as well as internationally at the Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Harrogate, England. Emily also performs regularly with the New York Gilbert & Sullivan players in New York City.

Together they often perform songs originally sung by Mario Lanza, Julie Andrews, Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. Admission to Great Neck House requires a park card.

Try-Hockey-for-Free Day

Come down to the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., for “Try-Hockey-for-Free Day.” Everyone who would like to participate must sign-up on line at www.USAHockey.com. There is limited space available.

People can also register for the district’s ice skating programs and classes at www.gnparks.org.

Nature Program: About Algonquins

Om Sunday, Nov. 12 at 12:30 p.m., there will be a hands-on program about Native Americans, the first naturalists, in Kings Point Park, Redbrook Road entrance.

Geared for the average adult, participants will explore the land, knowledge and traditions of Long Island’s indigenous people. Register for the event on the Parks District website www.gnparks.org or call (516) 482-0355. Children under age 16 not permitted to attend.

Defensive Driving Classes at Great Neck House

Great Neck House continues to offer Empire Safety Council Defensive Driving classes on the first Saturday of every month. The classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Upcoming classes are Nov. 4 and Dec. 2. To register or for more information, call Great Neck House at 482-0355.

Birthday Parties in the Park District

Interested patrons can book their child’s next birthday celebration at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink or at Steppingstone Park. Special Teen Friday Night Recreation

Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink is the “coolest” place in town for teens, every Friday from 8 to 10 p.m. Along with skating, there is special club-like lighting, music, on and off ice activities, food at the snack bar for purchase and all with adult supervision. Admission fee applies whether or not you go on the ice. Call 487-2975, Ext. 128 for more information.
