Hofstra bestows George M. Estabrook awards

On Dec. 16, the Hofstra University George M. Estabrook Foundation held its annual event at Chateau Briand restaurant in Carle Place.

Established in 1960, the award is named in memory of George Mitchell Estabrook who held many important positions, including mayor of Village of Hempstead, trustee of Hempstead School District Board of Education, commander of Hempstead American Legion Post 390. A prominent developer, Estabrook’s firm was responsible for construction of many buildings on Hofstra’s campus, in Garden City, and throughout Long Island.

This year’s awardees included Nassau County Legislator Siela Bynoe, Daniel DeStafano, Gary Gerth, Hofstra Professor Nancy Kaplan, Huntington Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci, and Rebecca Sassouni, whose bio and record of public service may be found at www.rebeccasassounilaw.com and on the website of the Great Neck Public Schools under “Board of Education”.
