Huntington’s Nightmare on Main Street

The Island Now

The Huntington Arts Council is inviting students from grades 6-12 to participate in “Nightmare on Main Street” with art inspired by the theme of Halloween. The Halloween season is full of magic, creativity, and inspiration! With the transition of the seasons comes the cooler weather, darker days and bursts of color from the trees. The world around us transforms.

Entries must be submitted by Monday, Sep. 23. Additionally, the submitted works must be original to the entrant and framed works will require hanging wire. Works of video cannot be more than 50 megabytes. Standing work has a height limit of 72 inches. No other work is allowed to be more than 48 inches in length, width or height.

The submitted works are selected by a juror, who is limited to selecting no more than two works per artist. Submission materials will not to be returned.

There are entry fees for those who wish to submit their work. JOURNEY school students are required to pay a $15 entry fee, while full-time students must pay $25. Any additional entries will cost $5 each. Entry fees are nonrefundable.

The juror for the event will be Stephanie Buscema, a Huntington painter, illustrator and designer who traditionally works with paints on paper. Buscema’s worked professionally for the past 15 years on a variety of projects, from publishing to textile design. She also owns a small business, Kitschy Witch Designs, where she creates whimsical textile prints and designs vintage inspired clothing and accessories.
