Join Team Manhasset in walk to support breast cancer

The Island Now

Support the Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer by participating in the LI2Day Walk with Team Manhasset on Saturday, June 8.

The MWCABC is now forming its team of walkers, Team Manhasset, for the one-day-only half marathon, 13.1 miles along scenic Smith Point Beach in Shirley and through the local neighborhood on Saturday, June 8, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MWCABC’s Outreach Program is one of the many beneficiaries of the LI2Day Walk, which gives Outreach a grant every year for its participation. Outreach greatly depends on the funds raised to assist the women in our area who have been diagnosed with breast and other cancers. In 2018, 124 women with cancer have received assistance and support from the coalition. While some continue to be helped from other years, 40 of the women were new to the program in 2018.

Be a part of this amazing, one-day journey that will help so many fighting this disease. Sign up for Team Manhasset at www.li2daywalk.org. It is a day full of empowerment, inspiration, laughs and some tears. Walking amongst the women battling this disease is an incredible journey.

Everyone has a story and a purpose for walking the walk. Watching these women who are fighting for a cure, fighting their breast cancer and crossing the finish line is what it’s all about. The determination and strength these women possess is so inspiring. Help fight this disease by walking with Team Manhasset. Survivors who are not participating in the walk are invited to attend the closing ceremony and cross the bridge in the final procession.

The walker commitment is a $75 registration fee and fundraise of $500. Team Manhasset will begin training walks in the community to prepare for this inspiring event. The coalition still needs many volunteers throughout the day. Walk or consider volunteering for the cause by contacting team captain Monique Koch at mmkoch1130@gmail.com.
