Port Washington American Legion Post 509 has announced that Legionnaire Arnold Kline has been selected as the Grand Marshall of the 2019 Memorial Day Parade. This year is of particular significance as it marks the 100th Anniversary of the American Legion.

Legionnaire Kline had a distinguished career as a New York state licensed professional engineer for over 60 years. In 1957, he graduated from City College of New York with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree. Kline was drafted into the Army in 1958. His basic training was at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. and Fort Chaffee, Ark. At that time, his work for the United States Bureau of Reclamation in Denver, Colo. and Lewiston, Calif. provided great support to the development of the western part of the United States, and then he returned to civilian life. Presently, he is the owner of Kline Engineering, P.C.

Kline and his wife, Bonnie, have resided in Port Washington for 35 years. They have three children. Gary and Cherie reside out of state and Wendy lives and works on Long Island.

For many years, Kline was a race walker, having completed five marathons in New York, London and Boston after the age of 60. He is a member of the New York Road Runners Club, the Park Race Walkers Club and the Long Island Road Runners Club.

Having lived and worked during turbulent times in our country, he takes great pride in the accomplishments of the American Legion and his involvement in such a worthy organization. Kline said, “It is a great honor to be selected as Grand Marshal in Port Washington’s Memorial Day Parade on the American Legion’s 100th Anniversary.”
