Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board have released the latest “Off The Trail” episode, which takes a group of students from the Yes We Can after-school program on a nature scavenger hunt along the Hempstead Harbor trail. The episode, hosted by Ranger Eric Powers, is now showing on NHTV and also available on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmZmj8FpBRw&.
“There are so many wonders of nature right here in our own backyards,” said Bosworth. “Ranger Powers educates the students, while they have fun discovering and identifying the plants and animals around them, from mushrooms to mussels and everything in between. Spending time outdoors is a great way to fire up a child’s imagination.”
“In this episode I wanted to show adults how easy it is to take children out into nature to explore and discover in a safe manner,” said Powers. “You will see that I give the children a little guidance and a little information and then they carry-on with the learning process. I’ve been leading nature walks for 32 years, and each time it’s like the first… Watching children get excited about something allows me to see it with fresh eyes as well. I hope this episode inspires you get outside and explore on and off the trail.”
“Off The Trail” is the first place winner of the 2016 and 2017 Alliance for Community Media’s Annual Hometown Media Awards in the Entertainment & Arts- Series. The nature series is directed by Alan Ginsberg and Samantha Hollinde of AGinsberg Productions LLC, and produced by Carole Trottere, Director of Communications for North Hempstead and biologist Powers of Your Connection to Nature.
“Off The Trail” takes a look at local nature and our natural surroundings in the North Hempstead area, observing everything from global warming and its effects on our environment to exploring what’s below the waters of Long Island Sound.
