The Memorial Day Fireworks and Commemoration Ceremony will be held at North Hempstead Beach Park on Saturday, May 25 at 6 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m.

This year’s ceremony will feature a fireworks display by Santore Fireworks, musical entertainment from Beginnings, a Chicago tribute band, and The LPs playing songs from the 70’s and 80’s. After the fireworks, there will be music provided by a DJ.

During the ceremony, Margaret Harper from Schreiber High School will sing the National Anthem and Cub Scouts from Albertson Pack 201 will perform the Pledge of Allegiance. Scenic North Hempstead Beach Park offers a boardwalk along the water and picnic areas so visitors can enjoy a start to the summer season.

“Each year this tradition gives all of us as a community the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by those in the armed forces who died for our freedom,” said Supervisor Judy Bosworth. “The fireworks display will be a fitting tribute to all of these heroes and also provides meaningful time with our friends and families.”

The event is free, but vehicles will be charged a $10 parking fee. When the lot is full, free overflow parking will be available with free shuttle bus transportation.

The Town is pleased to once again offer free parking for veterans and active duty military. Parking passes will be available at various facilities throughout the Town with a proof of ID.

“Offering a free parking pass for the Memorial Day Commemoration event is the very least we can do to acknowledge the tremendous sacrifice these men and women have made for our country,” said Bosworth. “We hope that all veterans and members of the military will stop by the park office to get their free parking pass prior to the event.”

The free parking passes for active military members and veterans will be issued now at the following locations:

Clinton G. Martin Park – 1601 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park
Office of the Town Clerk – 200 Plandome Road, Manhasset
North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center – 141 Garden Street, Westbury
Michael J. Tully Park – 1801 Evergreen Avenue, New Hyde Park

Qualifying residents will need to show their government-issued VA card or an active military ID.

This parking pass applies only when the main lot at North Hempstead Beach Park is still open. When the lot is full, overflow parking is available for free with shuttle bus transportation.

Can’t make it to the event? This year, the Town will be live-streaming the fireworks show, beginning at 9 p.m., on the Town of North Hempstead’s Facebook page located at www.facebook.com/townofnorthhempstead.
