The Island Now

The Amazin’ Mets are teaming up with Island Harvest Food Bank for the annual “Home Run to End Hunger” presented by Petro Home Services. The event helps raise funds to fight hunger on Long Island.

Fans of Island Harvest and the Mets are invited to come out to Citi Field on Wednesday, May 1, at 5:10 p.m. for a pre-game celebration in the exclusive Foxwoods Club, featuring food, drinks, exciting auction prizes, and special appearances by the team’s mascot, Mr. Met. After the pre-game festivities, fans will watch the Mets take on the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m., from specially selected field-level seats.

Tickets cost $185 per person ($155 for children 12 and under) and include admission, and complimentary food and beverages during the pre-game event. Reservations, which are required due to limited seating, can be made online at www.islandharvest.org. Proceeds will help Island Harvest Food Bank raise funds to provide food, programs and services that assist more than 300,000 of our Long Island neighbors who don’t have enough food to put on their tables.

Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and typically sell out quickly for this fun and much anticipated annual event. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available. For  information, please call Erin Murphy at 631-873-4775, or email her at erin@islandharvest.org.

About Hunger and Food Insecurity on Long Island
Food insecurity is a state in which people do not get enough food on a consistent basis to provide the nutrients for active and healthy lives. It can result from the recurrent lack of access to food. More than 300,000 Long Islanders face the risk of hunger every day, according to Island Harvest Food Bank and Feeding America®, a national hunger-relief organization. Those facing hunger include adults (often working two jobs), children, senior citizens, and veterans. Unable to make ends meet, they (and their children) are often forced to go without food. Approximately 70,000 individuals seek food assistance in Nassau and Suffolk counties each week through soup kitchens, food pantries and other feeding programs served by Island Harvest Food Bank.
