The Island Now

If you’ve not visited Montauk Point Lighthouse yet then make the time to take in the beautiful views during your staycation.

With many people’s travel plans being postponed at the moment, there’s never been a better time to enjoy what’s already around us. Living in Long Island we’re incredibly lucky to be surrounded by relaxing ocean, brilliant restaurants and plenty of activities for night and day. Here’s how to plan the perfect first day of your staycation. Go on, celebrate another new year in this beautiful part of America.

Eat at The Lake House

There has been a big drive lately to help some of the restaurants that have struggled through difficult times in the past few months. The taste Nassau initiative has been well-received and it’s not time to slow down now. The Lake House is open for business every day and has taken all necessary precautions to ensure that their restaurant is safe and secure for all. Even better, their outside terrace is available, so you can dine in the fresh air and make the most of unparalleled views out to sea. There’s nothing quite like watching boats go by as you tuck in to a delicious meal.

The Lake House offers excellent value dining that doesn’t compromise on quality. They currently have a prix fixe menu which as well as being very reasonably priced, offers plenty of choice, with delicious seafood and fresh farm to table meats. The Littleneck Clam Chowder is particularly delicious in this Autumn weather, it’s packed full of juicy clams and crispy bacon. The perfect dish to warm you up.

Visit Montauk Point Lighthouse

When you’re lucky enough to have one of the oldest operational lighthouse’s in the country in your home state, then it would be crazy not to visit. So, for anyone that hasn’t made a trip to Montauk Point Lighthouse, maybe this staycation can be your first time. The Lighthouse is a beloved landmark for many of America’s migrant population, as it is the first sight of America that they would see. In a country that was built on the back of these brave pioneers, it is heartwarming to visit and experience for yourself.

The lighthouse is run as a museum, so there is a small admission fee of $10. The fee is more than worth it for the views alone though. Climb up to the top of the tower and you’ll be able to see right out into the ocean, if you look down then you might even spot fishermen on the rocks. Once you’ve taken in the scenery make your way down to the lighthouse keeper’s house. The house is now packed to the rafters with fascinating maritime objects.

Visit Jake’s 58 Casino

Your day is almost over, so it’s time to get inside somewhere warm. Jake’s 58 Casino has been a favorite amongst the community for years, so whether you’re an avid gamer, or a nervous novice, it’s a fun place to spend the evening. Jake’s offers a full selection of America’s favorite online casino games, all in an electronic version. Though some people enjoy the charm of an actual roulette wheel, or the noise of shuffling cards, electronic games can prove more accessible for beginners. If you’d like to brush up on your technique then you can play a few online games at home and feel like a true pro when you make it to the casino.

If you’d like games that are totally self explanatory then Jake’s 58 offers literally hundreds of slot machines to choose from. They have all of the most popular ones, as well as some more unusual gems. Safety precautions are being taken very seriously, including temperature checks and social distancing. There are two floors of gaming space, so there’s plenty of room to spread out and stay safe.  Anyway, once your evening begins to come to an end treat yourself to a drink from the bar. If you’ve been lucky enough to win then don’t forget to cash in your chips on the way out.
