Ra re-appointed ranking member of Ways and Means, tapped for Rules Committee post

The Island Now

State Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) is pleased to announce that Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay has re-appointed him the top Republican on the Ways and Means Committee. The committee vets all legislation with a fiscal impact to the state and is responsible for helping craft, adopt and negotiate the state budget.

“I’m so appreciative for Leader Barclay’s trust. This committee’s mission is always important, but this year is a whole new ballgame. Our state’s finances have been decimated by the pandemic. Moving forward, we need a balanced approach that sparks new economic growth, delivers for our small business owners, and protects hardworking taxpayers. The recovery starts now, and so much of the work is going to happen in this committee. I’m focused and I’m ready to roll,” said Ra.

One of Ra’s top budget priorities is delivering much-needed aid to Long Island schools.

Barclay also appointed Ra to the state Assembly Committee on Rules. It’s a critical post. No legislation can reach the floor of the Assembly for a vote unless its authorized by a majority of the members on the Rules Committee.

“It’s an honor, and it’s another platform that I have to advocate for the people of the 19th Assembly District,” said Ra. “I want to work in a bipartisan way to get legislation on the floor that stabilizes our state so we can move forward.”
