Readers Write: Manhasset peace march prevailed over rain

The Island Now

We would like to thank everyone who joined us in the spirited Manhasset Peace March that was held on Saturday, June 6. Despite a sudden heavy rainfall, marchers did not falter as they walked from Whitney Pond Park on Community Drive to the Plandome Road Gazebo, culminating in a rally at the Hagedorn Community Center at the Manhasset/Great Neck EOC, 65 High Street, Manhasset. Their enthusiasm and passion were incredible. No storm could keep anyone home or drive them to shelter from the sudden downpour.

In these difficult times, this huge, diverse turnout of local residents showed their commitment to finally ending violence and discrimination against people of color once and for all. It was a strong and firm show of solidarity among our neighbors and community.

We can never give up in our pursuit of civil and equal rights, for Black Lives Matter very much. Do not forget that there is power in numbers and our Peace March was certainly an expression of unity for and in our democracy. Thank you, one and all.
