Readers Write: Wrong to accuse Markowitz of anti-Semitism

The Island Now

I have worked with Steve Markowitz at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center for seven years, and I can attest to his integrity, intelligence, kindness, compassion and deep sense of tolerance for all humanity. When a man of his strength and vision is wrongly accused of anti-Semitism, or any kind of prejudice, it is necessary for all who know him to stand up and shout: This is wrong!

As the Scholar-in-Residence at the center, I am in daily contact with staff, trustees, volunteers, docents and the many, many visitors who come here to learn about the lessons of the Holocaust. Steve is not only appreciated and respected here, but adored.

I have lived in Great Neck for 40 years and I have never seen this level of disturbing political behavior before. Let’s all put this aside and work together to keep our lovely community lovely. One thing I know for sure is that Steve will continue to be a leader in making this happen.
