The Island Now

North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Viviana Russell and Nassau County Legislator Siela Bynoe, along with corporate sponsors Applebee’s, Target and North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center, DPR Scrap Metal, invite residents to join them and members of the community in celebrating “National Night Out 2019,” an opportunity to build a neighborhood, police and government partnership. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 6, with assembly for the parade starts at 5 p.m. and marching begins at 5:30 p.m.

“Seeing our community coming together and creating meaningful relationships through face to face interaction is an amazing thing,” said Bosworth. “National Night out has been bridging relationships between our residents, law enforcement and local business for 36 years and I look forward to joining the community for this year’s event and festivities.”

National Night Out is an annual community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, caring places to live. The event will feature music, singing, dancing, health care services providers, crime prevention information, education resources, cultural entertainment, refreshments, arts & crafts, raffles, games, health screenings, giveaways and more.

“Each year the Town of North Hempstead uses the National Night Out event as a tool to strengthen Community and Law Enforcement relations. I am comfortable in saying each year we come closer to accomplishing and exceeding the goal of responsible community engagement,” said Russell.

The event kicks off with a parade with assembly beginning at 5 p.m. and marching starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army on 992 Prospect Avenue in Westbury. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park, located at Broadway and Swalm Street in Westbury.

Applebee’s of Westbury, will be donating hundreds of free burgers and hot dogs for the event.
