Two MSNBC contributors to speak at Emanuel

The seventh season of Stephen C. Widom Cultural Arts at Emanuel continues on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m., with a conversation between Jill Wine-Banks and Jason Johnson moderated by NY1 anchor Errol Louis.

Wine-Banks combines experience as a senior corporate executive and nonprofit CEO and COO with a successful legal career in government and private practice and service on corporate and civic boards. She was one of the three assistant special prosecutors in the Watergate obstruction of justice trial against President Nixon’s top aides in which the President was named an unindicted co-conspirator.

At the conclusion of the Watergate case, Wine-Banks entered private practice before being named general counsel of the U.S. Army by President Carter. In the Pentagon, she supervised the world’s largest law firm, was a member of the Army Policy and Procurement Council and GC of the Panama Canal Corporation.

Wine-Banks has served as solicitor general and then deputy attorney general of Illinois. She was later appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer of the American Bar Association, the largest professional association in America. She continues to hold major corporate and government posts and engage in numerous civic and charitable activities. She is currently an MSNBC contributor and legal analyst.

Johnson is a professor, political analyst and public speaker. Fresh, unflappable and objective, he is known for his ability to break down stories with wit and candor. He is the author the book “Political Consultants and Campaigns: One Day to Sell,” a tenured professor in the School of Global Journalism & Communication at Morgan State University in Baltimore and politics editor at TheRoot.com.

Johnson has an extensive public speaking and media background ranging from pop culture to politics. He is also a contributor at MSNBC, and has appeared as a commentator locally, nationally and internationally.

Following the dialogue, there will be an audience Q&A and refreshments.
