Great Neck North and South High Schools Art Exhibit in the Main Library Gallery

Students from Great Neck North and South will have a selection of artwork on display including photographs, drawings, paintings, and mixed media from June 3 to 20 in the Main Library Gallery, lower level, 159 Bayview Ave. A reception will be held on Thursday, June 20 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the gallery.

Top Hoodlum: Frank Costello Prime Minister of The Mafia

Meet Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Anthony DeStefano when he talks about his book, “Top Hoodlum: Frank Costello Prime Minister of The Mafia,” on Wednesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Ave. DeStefano draws from recently released FBI documents, family testimony, and court records to construct an engrossing chronicle of the life of notorious Mafia boss Frank Costello (1891–1973), a “reluctant prince of the Mafia” who, despite his criminal undertakings, was “on a quest to be seen as legitimate.” His move to Sands Point (Gatsby’s fictional East Egg) best illustrates that desire. DeStefano has covered organized crime for over three decades. For the past 20 years he has been a reporter for Newsday in New York City, specializing in criminal justice and legal affairs. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Learn how Patricia Ann Kellner used traditional Genealogy and DNA to find lost family and prove Sarah was her grandma’s sister when she presents Finding Lost Family – A Genealogy and DNA Journey on Thursday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Ave. Kellner has found lost family members using Genealogy and DNA, reunited adoptees to their families, and developed successful Genetic Genealogy strategies. She manages over 35 DNA tests, runs Facebook DNA/Genealogy groups, hosted family reunions, and created an extensive family tree. Patricia is President of the DNA Genealogy Group of Long Island and is a founding Board Member.
