Dog & Cat First Aid
First aid for cats and dogs is the immediate and temporary care given to an injured animal until it can be taken to a veterinarian for medical care. Participants will learn how to be prepared for emergencies that involve a cat or dog and how to protect themselves and the animal from further harm, injury or suffering during emergencies by utilizing prompt, effective first aid actions and care. This program will be presented by Celia Vollmer, certified in pet First Aid by the American Red Cross. Register at the reference desk or call 516-746-8488 ext. 2.

1969: The Year That Pointed the Way
Five decades on, 1969 remains one of the most fascinating years in modern times. Closing out the turbulent sixties while laying the groundwork for the decades to come, 1969 had it all. Go on a trip back in time with lecturer Clive Young as he explores 1969’s trends, music, fashion, and more in this upbeat, fast-paced multimedia program. The Space Roadshow: Summer Reading Kickoff Event
Lee Ognibene, retired Sayville Planetarium director, presents an exciting astronomy show. Explore the phases of the moon using a model of the moon and a video camera. Take a video field trip to parts of the world, including a meteor crater in Arizona to discover how craters are formed. Visit the Kennedy Space Center to watch a space shuttle launch and learn how rockets work. Discover what it’s like to be weightless in the shuttle and on the International Space Station, while exploring distant planets. Register in the children’s room or call 516-746-8488 ext. 1.
