Independent Nomination Petitions Being Accepted

In accordance with the Bylaws of the Great Neck Library, the deadline for filing of petitions for independent nominations for expiring seats on the Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee is August 15, 2018. Petition forms are available in the Director’s Office during regular business hours. Biographical information for all candidates will appear in the October-December issue of the Library Newsletter and online at www.greatnecklibrary.org.
The Nominating Committee has endorsed the candidates, as follows, to fill four seats on the Library Board of Trustees and three seats on the Nominating Committee that will be expiring in January 2019.

Board of Trustees: Four-year term, January 2019-2023 for the seat currently held by Robert Schaufeld – Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate: Liman Mimi Hu. Four-year term, January 2019-2023 for the seat currently held by Joel Marcus – Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate: David Zielenziger. Remaining two-year term, January 2019-2021 for Doug Hwee’s seat – Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate: Josie Pizer. Remaining one-year term, January 2019-2020 for Francine Ferrante Krupski’s seat – Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate: Scott Sontag.

Great Neck Library Staff Excellence Award

Nicholas Pontolillo was the recipient of the Great Neck Library Staff Excellence Award for July 2018. Nick was recognized for his superior job performance and outstanding service to the Great Neck Library patrons.

Great Decisions Encore with Librarian Christy Orquera at Main

Join the discussion about world affairs when Librarian Christy Orquera facilitates Great Decisions. On Tuesday, Aug. 14 there will be a discussion in the day and the evening. “The Waning of Pax Americana?” will be the discussion topic at 1 p.m. “Russia’s Foreign Policy” will be the topic at 7 p.m. The programs will be held in the Main Library Community Room,159 Bayview Avenue.

Allies in Wellness facilitated by Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh at Main

Get hot, sizzling facts on the Power of Now with Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh in this new study group, Allies in Wellness on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Large Multipurpose Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. Wednesday Matinee Film at Main

The next Wednesday Matinee, about a couple who go on an unforgettable journey in the faithful old RV they call The Leisure Seeker, will be shown on Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Running Against the Machine presented by James Coll at Main

Few local elections demonstrate the dysfunction of New York election law as much as the only Republican primary race for a seat on the Nassau County Legislature in 2017. James Coll, former candidate for the 15th District, and Christopher Paolillo, the campaign manager, will provide an eye-opening, non-partisan discussion about the seemingly insurmountable challenges they faced getting on the ballot from the day they announced to Election Day, on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

James Coll is an Adjunct Professor of American and Constitutional History at Hofstra University and Nassau Community College, an NYPD detective and the founder of ChangeNYS, a nonprofit organization formed to educate New Yorkers about the need for nonpartisan civic understanding and political reform in the state.

Finance Committee Meeting at Main

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees Finance Committee is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Small Multipurpose Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. All are welcome. House Calls: The Doctor Is In
Northwell Outreach at Station

Learn about Northwell’s House Calls program on Friday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road on the second level, which is above Best Market.

Joyce A. Racanelli, LCSW Director, Ambulatory Care Management, House Calls Program/ Northwell Solutions and Linda A. Blatchly, Intake RN Northwell House Calls will speak about the program and answer questions.

The mission at Northwell Health House Calls is to serve the highest need patients to achieve better care and health at a lower cost. The House Calls program includes Advanced Illness Management and Independence at Home.
